Hello and welcome!

I’m Mikey Long, the creator and operator of Fresh Science Explained.

I was born and raised in the northwest suburbs outside of Chicago. After graduating from the University of Kansas in 2017, I spent the next five years working on a PhD in neuroscience at Loyola University Chicago; however, due to a sudden chronic dizziness disorder (PPPD), I chose to abandon the PhD. I wrote and defended my Master’s thesis in 2022. While my graduate degree was in neuroscience, I conducted my graduate research in a virology lab on a project breaching the gap between the two fields. This journey provided me with scholarly expertise in biology, neuroscience, and virology.

I created this blog to simplify the complex world of transformative research in biomedical sciences. I hope to illuminate each topic for readers of any background. When groundbreaking research happens, I want you to understand it. Consider me your guide, helping you explain scientific findings to your friends.
